Gold mounted. The son of Siegfried Finkel, and grandson of the renowned Paul Weidhaas, Johannes Finkel is a 4th generation bowmaker, highly regarded in his own right. His credentials include apprenticeships and employment with Siegfried Finkel, J.A. Beare in London, Hans Weishaar in Los Angeles, and Moennig in Philadelphia. Since 1984 Finkel has run the family's workshop in Switzerland. His bows are of consistent quality following the rich tradition of his family. In excellent condition, this bow is responsive and powerful- an excellent value for a gold bow.

The highly respected Penzel family of bow makers spans four generations. Gerhard Penzel began his training with his great uncle E.M Penzel. He then worked in Stuttgart for a number of years before moving to Ostrach, Germany near Lake Constance in 1974 where the Penzel family has had its workshop ever since.

After working with his father in Markneukirchen, Franz Winkler spent a few years with makers in Philadelphia and Chicago and then in Paris before returning to Markneukirchen in 1903. Because of the connections he made here his work became popular with American musicians. His bows have always been respected for their fine playing qualities.

Originally from Czechoslovakia, R.Dotschkail (1923-1996) trained at the Technical School for Insrtument making in Graslitz in the 1930’s. After WWII he was forced out of Czechoslovakia and set up his workshop in Erlangen in 1951. This beautiful bow has a gold-mounted ivory frog and an elegant gold mounted button with pearl eyes on each facet.

John Norwood Lee began his career as a bow maker in 1977 at Bein & Fushi in Chicago.  He stayed on, learning and perfecting his craft for many years. He set up his own shop in the same historic building on South Michigan Avenue and has gone on to be recognized as one of the top makers in this country.

For 39 years Gerald Kagan was the assistant principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He was also well known as a bow maker as well as a creator and designer of fine jewelry. This elegant cello bow is typical of the high degree of craftsmanship he had become well known for. The unusual slide is of pearl and engraved gold.

Born in Munich, Florian studied viola performance and played in orchestras in the Netherlands. He studied bow making in the UK with several master makers. He has since moved to Boston where he continues to work with several important makers.
