Pierre Simon along with Joseph Henry were probably the finest Parisian makers of their time. Born in Mirecourt in 1808, Simon trained with the great Dominique Piccatte. He stayed in his home town until 1838, then moving to Paris. From 1840-1844. he made bows for J.B.Vuillaume and then went into partnership with Joseph Henry (1848-1851). After the partnership, his name seems to disappear from the commercial register until 1875, but was certainly making bows for Vuillaume as well as other Parisian dealers. The Parisian bow makers of that era were undoubtebly among the very finest in the history of bow making and this superb bow is a fine example of Simon’s work.
