Fernando Solar (1921-2011) is considered to be one of the finest Spanish violin makers of his generation. He moved to Madrid in 1943 to work with Santos Hernandez for five years and was able to open his own Madrid workshop in 1948. His work was in great demand for the rest of his career. He was also appointed luthier to the Royal Palace where he maintained the quartet of Stradivari instruments in their collection.

His violins such as this fine example are noted for their deep, rich, penetrating tone.
