E.A.Ouchard was certainly one of the most respected and important bow makers of the mid 20th. Century. His bows have always been admired for their elegant craftsmanship and of course superb playing qualities. He was the son and pupil of Emile François and worked with him at the Cuniot-Hury workshop and continued working with him when his father set up his own workshop. He established his own workshop in Paris in 1940, but left for New York in ’46 where he worked with L.Rudie. He won a contract to make bows exclusively for William Lewis & Sons in Chicago, moving to Batavia, Illinois. He then worked for Jacques Français in New York, until returning to France in 1960.

This bow is an excellent example of this important master’s work.
