Möckel studied first with his father, Oswald, then with Carl Grimm. He worked in London with Ruchard Bruckner from 1890-1892. From 1908-1912, he worked in Dresden, then taking over his father's shop in Berlin. He was known not only as one of the finest makers of his time, but also as an important and pre-eminent expert in fine old instruments. Möckel was especially noted for the superb craftsmanship and aesthetic quality of his instruments.
This beautiful violin is typical of his work and is tonally of great quality.
