In the 19th century, Paris was in many ways the musical center of the World and many of the best makers came and worked there. C.N.Gand (1825-1892), joined with his brother Charles Adolphe to form Gand Frères. The Gand &Bernardel firm was established in 1866. C.N. won the title Chevalier de la Lègion d’honneur in 1878 the year this very beautiful violin was created.
