Ifshin Violins
Articles

Over the past few years, we have developed relationships with some of the best contemporary Italian makers. We now have an extensive selection of outstanding violins and cellos from a number of top makers. Mr. Ifshin has just returned from Europe with four exceptional cellos which he personally selected after visiting with the makers. They include:

Scrollavezza & Zanre, Parma. This beautiful cello was made under the direction of our friends Elisa Scrollavezza and Andre Zanre. The sound is large, powerful, responsive. It is offered at an attractive price, and will develop into a very exceptional instrument.

Stefano Trabucchi, Cremona. This cello displays the most beautiful and elegant workmanship. The tone is quite big, focused and brilliant. Our staff cellist Vivian found it easy and enjoyable to play. Trabucci graduated with honors at the violin making school in Cremona in 1988 and has had his own workshop after working with Marco Nolli. He has won a number of awards for his work.

Georgio Grisales, Cremona. Grisales has become one of the most important and influential of the contemporary Cremonese makers. He began his studies in Cremona in 1983 and finished in Milan before returning to Cremona. Vivian finds this cello to be amazingly resonant, with a big, ringing sound.

Marcello Bellei, Modena. We have always been very enthusiastic about Bellei’s work, ever since Mr. Ifshin met him four years ago. This cello has an unusually warm, rich tone and has very tasteful antiquing.

We also recently acquired cellos by Daniele Tonarelli and Maruzio Tadiolli. Whether you are looking for a contemporary instrument or fine old antique cello, there has never been a better time to visit us. Feel free to call us for more information.
