Born in Mirecourt, François Lotte was the son of violin maker Gorges Lotte and apprenticed with Charles Nicolas Bazin. He worked with Eugène Cuniot-Hury before setting up his own workshop in 1926. His workshop became well-known and respected. He made fine bows under his own name as well as for other makers and dealers.
