Leo Aschauer was born in Wolfratshausen in 1892 and trained at the violin making school in Mittenwald. Aschauer then went to Berlin, working with Wilfer and with Gartner in Stuttgart. He finally moved on to Mittenwald where he worked at the Gustave August Ficker workshop. He was only 30 years old when he became director of the famous violin making school in Mittenwald where he stayed for 35 years. Aschauer was always considered one of the most talented and respected makers in Mittenwald.

The tone is strong, clear, and supple with great flexibility.
