John Paul Moroz came from an important musical family. His grandfather studied violin in Berlin before WWI and came to America where he played violin in the NBC orchestra under Toscanini into the 1960’s. His great uncle was a pianist who was Heifetz’s accompanist in the 1920’s. John Paul started guitar making at 17. He enrolled at the violin making school in Salt Lake, graduating in 1982. Moving to New York, he worked with Amos Hargrave for several years before establishing his own workshop in Burlington, Vermont, in 1991. In 2005, he set up his shop in downtown Salt Lake City where he continues making and restoring violins, violas, and cellos. To this point he has made over 400 instruments.
