The Chanot family of Parisian violin makers spanned five generations including the great Georges I (1801-1883), one of the most important French makers of the 19th century. Georges Adolphe studied with his father Georges (II) and moved to Manchester in 1879 with the help of the Parisian maker and dealer Joseph Chardon. He quickly became one of the most important makers in England, winning numerous medals at major competitions. This exceptional violin has a wonderful sweet responsive tone with excellent projection.
