The firm of Laberte-Humbert in Mirecourt was formed at the beginning of the 20th century by the important luthier Marc Laberte. This violin is an excellent example of the work of this important firm.
Robert Glier was born and trained in Markneukirchen, moving to Cincinnati in 1885. He first worked for Wurlitzer before establishing his own successful shop.
Anders Halverson emigrated from Sweden to Chicago in 1924 to work for Lewis & Son, then moved to Nashville, Michigan two years later. He established a shop with William Meyers which became popular with musicians across the Midwest.
Gustave Bazin was a member of the famous Bazin bow making family. He worked with important violin makers such as Emile Laurent and Collin-Mezin before returning to Mirecourt making instruments in the Parisian style.
The Gustav August Ficker instruments were made for William Lewis & Sons of Chicago, one of the largest and most important violin shops in the U.S. They opened in the 1890’s and continued for almost a century. The Ficker violins, violas and cellos were always of the highest quality and always in demand.
This is an exceptionally nice old French violin with superb tonal qualities.
Max Willibald Schmidt was born and trained in Markneukirchen but came to America in 1913 during the great migration. He established his shop in San Francisco where he worked for a number of years before moving to Seattle.

For the past 100 years, the firm of Ernst Heinrich Roth has made excellent quality string instruments first in Markneukirchen and after the late 1940's in Bubenreuth. This violin is a fine example of their more recent work.
This violin bears the Ernst Heinrich Roth brand internally and is labeled: Made in Germany
The D.Soriot violins were crafted in the workshop founded by Marc Laberte, one of the most important in Mirecourt. Laberte collected instruments by the great classical Italian makers and strove to reproduce their qualities.
The Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (JTL) workshop produced fine string instruments for several decades. Starting in he mid 19th. century. This violin is an unusually nice example of their work.
This is a beautifully made violin from one of the best Mirecourt workshops.
Blondelet began his career with the Thibouville-Lamy firm at age 15. He became a highly regarded maker and was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1923. The tone is warm,full and rich.
Marc Laberte was the director of the Laberte-Humbert Frères workshop which produced some of the best Mirecourt violins of the early to mid 20th Century. From the "Carlisle Collection", this fine violin would be an excellent and well priced violin for an advancing student.

Willi Götz trained in Berlin with Otto Möckel and Ludwig Neuner and Georg Piegendorfer in Augsburg before settling in Markneukirchen in 1903.
