Emile A Ouchard
Branded LAVEST. Emile August Ouchard was the most important member of this major bow-making family and is considered the best maker of the mid-20th. century. The craftsmanship is exceptional and his bows have a wonderful elegance.

Victor Fétique
Paris. Fétique, like many French violin and bow makers was born and trained (with the Husson family) before going to Paris in 1901. He is considered one of the best bowmakers of the first third of the 20th. century.

André Richaume
stamped Laury Paris. Richaume probably trained with Émile Ouchard in Mirecourt before moving to Paris to work with his uncle Victor Fétique. He is especially noted for the exceptional quality of the wood he used. In fact David Oistrakh's favorite bow was a Richaume.

James Tubbs
London. Many feel that James Tubbs was the greatest of all English bow makers. This bow is an excellent example of his earlier work with wonderful smooth, supple playing qualities.

Gand & Bernardel (by C. Thomassin)
We are fortunate to have several bows by Claude Thomassin. This example is in exceptionally fine condition and is a prime and beautiful example.

Charles Husson
Paris. Husson studied bowmaking with his father Charles Père and in 1873, went to Paris to work with J.B.Vuillaume and also with F.N.Voirin. This bow is in excellent condition and is an excellent example by this great maker whose work is not as widely known as perhaps it should be.

C. Thomassin
Paris. After his apprenticeship in the C.N.Bazin workshop in Mirecourt, Thomassin worked for Gand & Bernardel in Paris. He set up his own workshop there in 1901. He continued to make bows for his former employer as well as many of the most important shops in Paris, London and Switzerland, as well as for the many musicians that visited his shop.

Auguste Barbé
Stamped Gand & Bernardel. Son of a Mirecourt violin maker, Barbé apprenticed with C.N.Bazin before moving to Paris where he worked for Gand & Bernardel. He returned to Mirecourt and made bows for the major shops in Paris. His work was very elegant and resembles the best work of F.N.Voirin.

W.D. Watson
London, gold, tortoise shell. Bill Watson started his career in the W.E.Hill & Sons workshop and is one of the best known English makers. This beautiful bow would be a great choice for either a collector or player.

L. Mougenot
(by Emile F. Ouchard). Ouchard learned his trade with Eugène Cuniot (Cuniot-Hury) and continued the workshop until 1922. He continued in his own workshop until his death in 1951. As is the case with this bow, he made many bows for others

London. Four examples: one in silver/tortoise fleur de Lys, three in silver/ebony.

Mirecourt, silver. Made in his best period, this fine bow is in excellent condition. Lapierre worked for a number of important bow makers.

Cuniot Hury
Mirecourt. Eugène Cuniot (known as Cuniot-Hury) established his firm in 1884 and continued until his death in 1910 when it was taken over by Emile F. Ouchard, who quite possibly made this bow. Because it is nickel mounted, it is an excellent value.

Pierre Guillaume has become one of the best known and important bow makers in the World. He studied with makers like Morizot, Bazin and Ouchard in Mirecourt. He also operates the famous Maison Bernard in Brussels. We are delighted to be able to offer these fine bows.

Frank Passa
San Francisco. Passa was for many years the best known violin dealer and expert in San Francisco. He had studied bow making with the great Emile A.Ouchard while he was working in New York. Later on he passed this important knowledge on to young bow makers like Morgan Andersen.
