Hardanger Fiddle

Hardanger Fiddle

Labeled A. F. Aasen, Eidfjord n. 28 ~ 1967.
The Hardnager is a traditional Norwegian folk instrument, invented in the 17th century. Like the classical violin, it has 4 strings that are bowed, but unlike the violin, it also has sympathetic resonating strings that run under the fingerboard that can be tuned to resonate with the bowed strings. This fiddle is beautifully inlaid with mother of pearl on the tailpiece and fingerboard and has the traditional carved scroll representing the Lion of Norway.
